Series: Jaden Toussaint, the Greatest Book Review
There is a new kid in town. His name is Jaden Toussaint, and he is the new definition of cool. I am excited to share with you a chapter book series from author/teacher/mother/multitasking ninja Marti Dumas. Jaden Toussaint, the Greatest is a series of chapter books that are guaranteed to have kids rolling on the floor laughing. Allow me to introduce the first 3 books (of the 5 book series) jam packed full of ninja dance moves and awesome brain power to celebrate the best superpower of all; intelligence.
Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of this book from the author to facilitate this review. As always, all opinions are my own.
Jaden Toussaint, the Greatest
Parents and teachers all breathe a deep sigh of relief when they they see a child wrapped up in a new book series they love! Marti Dumas is not only an author, but an experienced educators as well so she knows very well what kinds of books can hold a reader’s attention. Through humor and excellent pacing through out the book, Dumas is able to entice even the most reluctant readers to keep turning the pages of her books.
This diverse and beautifully illustrated book is an excellent addition to your library or as gifts for book lovers. I recommend reading this book aloud with children 5-6. Independent readers 7-9 will also enjoy this series.
Jaden Toussaint the Greatest Episode 1: The Quest for Screen Time
With Jaden’s giant afro and his enormous fantastic elastic brain, this 5-year-old is a force to be reckoned with. In the first book of the Jaden Toussaint series, Jaden has mastered every skill that a 5 year old could dream of, but he cannot seem to convince the adults in his life to give in to his request for more screen time. Any adult out there knows the struggle.
The story hilariously weaves the story of Jaden using every super hero trick in the book, some of his tactics are diplomatic, and some are well… not so much… all in pursuit of more screen time.
Jaden Toussaint the Greatest Episode 2: The Ladek Invasion
In case Jaden’s ninja dancing didn’t make your kids jump out of their chairs in the first book, this second Jaden Toussaint adventure takes you on a ride to save a school from alien invasion. Every child can relate to playing an imaginary game where they are eaten by aliens. Children will devour this book in no time. They will be taking you by the hand to fight the aliens off with the super power of STEM (and more ninja dance moves).
My husband and I read this book aloud during dinner time to our 6-year-old. No one could stay in their seat as we danced and laughed along with Jaden and his classmates precocious antics. This book will surely feeds any children’s imagination. Additionally, the book presents STEM concepts in a fun and non-threatening way that will gently encourage children towards the importance of academic success.
Jaden Toussaint the Greatest Episode 3: Muffin Wars
Once again, the third book of the Jaden Toussaint series tackles a very relatable and hilarious story line. In this third book, Jaden’s cousin, a fierce little girl named Muffin comes for a visit. I know if you read the first two books you are already gigantic fans of Jaden, and Muffin Wars continues the hilarious trend. As we were reading, I loved seeing learning multiple languages being celebrated. Jaden and Muffin were competing over who spoke better Mandarin rather than who was a superior gamer.
This spectacular third book is everything you expect in a cousin rivalry and more. Boy and girl geniuses collide in an epic battle of superior intelligence… and more ninja dancing. Female superheroes in children’s books are extremely scarce. I loved seeing Muffin celebrated for her intelligence rather than just her beauty.
Be sure to check out the rest of the books in the series with the following reviews:
Jaden Toussaint the Greatest Episode 4: Attack of the Swamp Thing
Jaden Toussaint the Greatest Episode 5: Mission Star Power
In the authors own words, Jaden Toussaint, the Greatest Series:
