What Is #DiverseKidLit?

Diverse Children’s Books is a book-sharing meme designed to promote the reading and writing of children’s books that feature diverse characters. This community embraces all kinds of diversity including (and certainly not limited to) diverse, inclusive, multicultural, and global books for children of all backgrounds.

We encourage everyone who shares to support this blogging community by visiting and leaving comments for at least three others. Please also consider following the hosts on at least one of their social media outlets. Spread the word using #diversekidlit and/or adding our button to your site and your diverse posts.

Multiracial Resources

Books with mixed race protagonists are representing a narrative where different backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures collide. The story of my two biracial daughters is not going to be the same as any other mixed child. However, having and exploring a world of books where families do not “match” in books is key.

We should all support the mission for ALL children and teens to see multiracial characters in books. For multiracial children reading these books; “whether those kids flow with ease from one culture to the other(s) or find themselves struggling, children’s literature should always be a place they belong.”

Join Us in Welcoming Svenja as a New Host!

Svenja is an adoptive mom of two little Black girls and a social worker, originally from Germany, living in South Africa. She searches the internet up and down for multicultural children’s books that have a positive message and that do not support stereotypes.

Passionate about promoting diversity, Svenja shares her findings of multicultural children’s books, toys and other resources on her website, Colours of Us. Because representation matters!
